Terms of Service

1. Service

Japan Location API provides normalized and derived Japanese real-estate and municipal data through REST and MCP interfaces. It is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by a Japanese government body. Source attribution and dataset-specific notices supplied with API responses must be preserved where required.

2. Subscription and payment

The self-service plan is a recurring monthly subscription at ¥9,800 per month, excluding consumption tax. Tax handling will be confirmed before checkout opens. Payment is collected by Stripe when the subscription begins and on each monthly renewal until cancellation. The customer must provide accurate billing and contact information.

3. API keys

After paid Stripe Checkout and an active subscription are verified, an API key generated in the customer's browser is presented once in the completion flow. The customer must keep it confidential, must not publish or resell it, and is responsible for requests made with it. A lost or exposed key should be reported promptly so it can be revoked and replaced. The raw key is not retained by the service after issuance.

4. Usage limits

The self-service plan includes 10,000 credits per UTC calendar month, up to 60 accepted operations per minute, and up to 300 unique municipalities in a rolling 30-day window. Current-city, city-list and usage operations cost 1 credit; district summaries cost 3; history and comparison operations cost 5; search costs 10 credits (price search runs within one prefecture). Search is limited to 20 results without pagination and comparison is limited to five municipalities. More restrictive per-operation minute limits may apply. Rejected operations do not consume credits. Limits apply jointly to REST and MCP and are aggregated per customer across that customer's API keys.

5. Data and attribution

Responses contain processed statistics based on identified public sources; they are not the source agencies' official publications. Coverage, definitions, omissions and attribution are returned in response metadata. The customer must assess whether the data is suitable for its use and must not present derived values as official government figures.

6. Availability and changes

The service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, upstream changes, security events or provider outages. Material schema changes will be communicated through the documented versioning process. The plan does not include onboarding, implementation assistance or custom data work. Email inquiries are handled on a best-effort basis without a guaranteed response time or support SLA.

7. Prohibited use

• Sharing, publishing, selling or transferring an API key.
• Attempting to bypass quotas, authorization or security controls.
• Using the service unlawfully or to infringe third-party rights.
• Removing required source attribution or representing the service as a government service.

8. Cancellation and suspension

Customers may request cancellation through the Stripe Customer Portal or the published support contact. Timing, access after cancellation and refunds are governed by the Cancellation & Refund Policy. Access may be suspended for failed payment, material breach, abuse or a security risk.

9. Accuracy and liability

Public-source data and derived statistics can contain delays, omissions or errors. The service does not guarantee that a response is current, complete or suitable for a particular decision. The warranty disclaimer above is drafted for this preview and may be revised before checkout opens.

Privacy Policy

Information processed

• Waitlist email and optional use-case text submitted through Formspree.
• Billing email and Stripe customer, subscription, Checkout and event identifiers.
• A one-way fingerprint of your API key and its first characters, used for identification, together with your subscription status and entitlement.
• Per-customer minute, monthly-credit and rolling 30-day municipality counters. The raw API key is not stored.
• Security and network metadata processed by Cloudflare when serving the site and API.

Full payment-card details are entered on Stripe-hosted pages and are not stored in the Japan Location API database.

Purposes

• Provide, secure and support the API and MCP service.
• Process subscriptions, maintain entitlements and prevent quota bypass.
• Reply to waitlist and customer inquiries.
• Investigate failures, abuse and security incidents.
• Meet accounting, tax and other legal obligations.

Service providers

Cloudflare, our hosting and infrastructure provider, serves the site and API and provides privacy-focused web analytics; Stripe processes Checkout, recurring billing and the Customer Portal; Formspree receives waitlist submissions. Each provider may process data under its own terms and privacy notice. This list will be kept up to date if an additional provider is added.

Retention and deletion

Operational data will be retained only for the period needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, prevent abuse and meet legal record-keeping duties. Security and international processing

Secret keys are never included in pages or files sent to your browser, and only a one-way hash of your API key is stored, not the raw key itself. Cloud infrastructure and service providers may process data outside the customer's country. The applicable safeguards and the seller's contact details will be published before checkout opens.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

The self-service plan renews monthly until canceled. Customers can initiate cancellation in the Stripe Customer Portal. A customer who has lost the API key needed to enter the Portal can contact To be published before checkout opens for identity verification and assistance.

Proposed: cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid billing period and already-started periods are not prorated. This is a draft proposal and may change before checkout opens.
